PEI MFRC: Can you tell us what role the MFRC has played in your life?
Ian: I’m new to the MFRC services. Prior to meeting Alicia, I didn’t really have much involvement with the MFRC, but the past two years have changed that.
PEI MFRC: So how have you benefited from MFRC services the last little while?
Ian: It feels like a whole new family that has always existed outside of the Forces itself; a whole other support group of like-minded people, with the same experiences, same paradigm to Military services.
Alicia: I’ve benefited by making friends with other spouses [and partners] who are in similar situations that I am—where we’re alone for periods of time. We’re able to connect through some of these events, and we touch base when our partners are gone away.
The couple noted what a difference the social events mean to them.
Alicia: The events help a lot—connecting with other families, but also I learn more about what he does when he has conversations with other Military members.
Thank you to Ian and Alicia for chatting with us, and we’re so glad you’re attending our socials! A reminder to all that we see “families” as including parents, siblings, partners, children, close friends, aunts, uncles…and more!
