SUMMARY – The PEI Military Family Resource Centre’s AGM takes place June 8 in the style of a kitchen party, featuring Island fiddler Richard Wood.
(CHARLOTTETOWN PE) May 20, 2015—The PEI Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) is hosting a kitchen party “with a little bit of business” on June 8 that features Island fiddler Richard Wood. Free for military members and their families, the AGM for the PEI MFRC will celebrate its first official year in PEI and look ahead to the next year. Members of the general public are also welcome to attend the Kitchen Party at a cost of $15.
Known for hosting social events for PEI’s military families, the MFRC also provides programs and services that empower and encourage strong, independent individuals and families within the Canadian Armed Forces.
The PEI MFRC opened its Charlottetown location in April 2014. Since that time, satellite offices have opened in Summerside, Cardigan, and Alberton, to further meet the needs of PEI’s military families. The PEI MFRC has also recently started to host virtual workshops accessible from any computer with an Internet connection.
The AGM, which takes place at HMCS Queen Charlotte, will reflect on the growth of the MFRC in its first official year of operation. The staff currently includes an executive director, two program coordinators, a social worker, and an office administrator. The Board of Directors govern the MFRC, and hard-working volunteers assist in its efforts.
Donna Earl, Executive Director for the PEI MFRC, is excited to host an AGM in the style of a kitchen party. She says, “We’re promoting this event as a good, old fashioned kitchen party, with a little bit of business on the side. The hope is that our military families, and those interested in supporting the PEI military community, will join us for an evening of celebration as we look to our next year of serving PEI’s military community.”
Well-known Island fiddler Richard Wood will be entertaining during the kitchen party portion of the evening. Throughout his career, Wood has shown his support for the Canadian Armed Forces. He travelled to both Bosnia and Afghanistan to entertain the troops, and is proud to perform for military members and their families here at home.
Earl adds, “There is much seriousness in our line of work, and with summer taskings about to get underway, we thought that a kitchen party AGM would help lift the spirits of our military community. There is much to celebrate this year as we look back on our first year here, so we want to do just that.”
The event takes place June 8, with RSVPs required by June 1. Registration will begin at 6PM, with the AGM portion of the evening taking place at 6:30PM. The kitchen party will follow the AGM.
To RSVP for this event, please contact the PEI MFRC (902-892-8999). There are a limited number of tickets and must be purchased in advance.
