On May 21, 2015, Major Errol MacEachern, from New Argyle, PEI, graduated with distinction from the United States Army School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS) in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
Each year, SAMS AMSP accepts around 110 students from the United States army and other branches of the US military, as well as a small number of civil servants and foreign officers. The aim of the program is to develop planners who can create solutions to complex military problems.
Major MacEachern entered a one-year Command and General Staff College program in Kansas in June 2013. He was then selected to continue his studies for a second year in the SAMS Advanced Military Studies Program (AMSP).
Upon graduation from SAMS, Major MacEachern was awarded a Master of Military Arts and Science. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (Athabasca), a Master of Arts in Integrated Studies (Royal Roads), and a Master of Science in Adult Education (Kansas State).
Major MacEachern is a member of Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) armoured regiment, based in Edmonton, Alberta. He began his military career in high school as a bandsman with the Prince Edward Island Regiment (PEIR).
Although his career has taken him to various locations in Canada and abroad, Major MacEachern maintains strong ties to PEI. His father, Arnold MacEachern, lives in Cornwall, and many extended family members are in the Charlottetown area. His mother, Meredith MacEachern, passed away in the fall of 2014. She was very proud of both MacEachern’s military and academic achievements.
This summer, Major MacEachern and his wife, Alycia Adams-MacEachern, will move to Kingston, Ontario, where Errol will take a position with the Army Staff. He anticipates applying his education as a military planner to his new role.
Congratulations, Major MacEachern, from all of us at the PEI Military Family Resource Centre and all your friends and supporters here in PEI!
Congratulations Errol, amazing achievement.
