(CHARLOTTETOWN, PE) May 3, 2017 – The PEI Military Family Resource Centre and Dynamic Fitness are offering a six-week wellness program that specifically addresses physical and emotional health concerns of ill or injured veterans. The sessions will take place at HMCS Queen Charlotte every Thursday afternoon from May 11 until June 15.
Program Coordinator Bernadine Mullin-Splude is happy to bring this program to veterans. “Veterans and their families may deal with a variety of illnesses and injuries, and there’s a variety of approaches to managing those stresses,” she says. “This particular wellness program combines mindfulness with movement. Each participant will move through the six sessions focussing on their individual needs at their individual capacity.”
Mullin-Splude encourages veterans to invite a family member, partner, or close friend to participate in the program with them. “It creates an opportunity to share the experience,” she says.
Classes happen Thursdays, starting May 11, from 1:30pm–2:15pm at HMCS Queen Charlotte.
Dynamic Fitness instructor Triona Harrop, a trained yoga for trauma specialist, will lead the Mindful Movement Yoga classes. The PEI MRFC is subsidizing a portion of the costs, so this six-week program costs only $30.
Deadline to register is Monday, May 8. Register by contacting the PEI MFRC office (902.892.8999).
